Happy Almost Friday everyone! Just like last week, I would like to discuss ingredients. Today I'd like to go over the ingredients that we have in our day-to-day personal hygiene products. More specifically, deodorant. Now let me preface this by saying that I am by no means bashing ANY brand that you may use OR even that you use commercial deodorant. You do you! My only goal here is to educate and spread awareness of the dangerous chemicals in commercial deodorants. I am personally making a choice to use 100% all-natural products for myself and my family because that is MY choice for a healthier life. This is my opinion only, you are free to do as you wish.

So, with all that out of the way.....let's really talk about deodorant! Not a fun topic to discuss, it is a necessity for most people and then again optional. If you don't want to stink, however, it is a must-have! What ARE the actual ingredients in commercial deodorants? Let's find out!

Ok, looks like lots of BIG words, what do they mean?

Aluminum zirconium octachlorohydrex Gly-This ingredient is an active antiperspirant agent; it diffuses into the sweat pores and prevents sweat from leaving the pores.

Alcohol denat-This is ethanol, with additives added to it for industrial purposes. Commonly used in skin care to ensure formula stability, emulsify ingredients, enhance skin absorption or preserve the product.

Cycopentasiloxane-This is a silicone that is regularly used in cosmetic products. Also found in implants, sealants, lubricants and

windshield coatings.

Dimethicone-A type of silicone popular in many

skin and hair products because it smooths

over rough surfaces and has a velvety texture.

Trisiloxane-A clear, colorless, very easily spreadable

and very volatile (evaporates from the skin easily)

silicone fluid.

Calcium chloride-A salt made up of one calcium

molecule for every two molecules of chlorine and is

used as a solidifying agent.

PEG-PPG-18/18 dimethicone-Another type of silicone

that plays a variety of roles in cosmetic products, like

functioning as a texture enhancer and cleansing agent.

Fragrance-A combination of chemicals that gives each

perfume or cologne (or other products) its distinct scent.

The ingredients may be derived from petroleum or natural

raw materials.

Here are the ingredients in A Snail's Pace all-natural deodorant:

  • Arrowroot Powder-A gluten-free natural thickening agent.

  • Baking Soda-An alkaline substance that can neutralize acid.

  • Coconut Oil-Edible oil derived from the kernels, meat and milk of the coconut palm fruit.

  • Shea Butter-A fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree.

  • Essential Oils-Concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell and flavor of their source.

This means that commercial/conventional deodorants contain WAY too many chemicals that are NOT needed! I don't think you need a medical degree to realize that adding triple silicone products and ethanol-based ingredients alone cannot be healthy! I don't think I want to put a product under my arm that has an ingredient that is used in windshield coatings. WHAT?

HOWEVER, this is a life choice you make for yourself and your loved ones, I am just here presenting the ingredients and feeling really good about what I make my natural deodorant with. By the way, mine works phenomenal! My underarm is no longer all cakey and dry, I feel like it works better in diffusing the sweat and it is soft. Ironically, I made a Ginger scent to go along with my name and I love it! I highly encourage you to do your own research. Attached you will find links to various sites that will help you make a more informed decision. Thank you so much for reading!
